Funium, the venture-backed developer of
Family Village, a Facebook game which combines game playing with creating a family tree, said today that it has officially launched the game to all Facebook users. The game--which has been available in beta since April of 2011--centers around a virtual, online community revolving around a user's real family tree. The game features ancestors dressed in period clothing, historical documents, personalized avatars, and more. Funium is headed by Jeff Wells, and is funded by Jim Sorenson's Family Odyssey. The company said it is monetizing the game by offering both traditional, virtual goods, as well as historical, real-world documents about ancestors. Funium raised $1.8M in a seed funding round earlier this month.
