Mesa Arizona-based Ulthera said today that it has raised $5.5M in Series A funding from 3i Venture Capital. Ulthera is developing a therapeutic ultrasound medical device targeted at the cosmetics market. As part of the investment, Allan Ferguson and Paul Badawi of 3i have joined the company's board of directors. Ulthera is developing a device for imaging and therapy, for performing non-invasive facelifts and wrikle treatments. The company's products are based on a micro-ablation device based on high frequency ultrasound technology.
