Overstock.com CEO Byrne Goes On Indefinite Medical Leave

Salt Lake City-based Overstock.com said Tuesday that CEO Patrick Byrne is taking medical leave of absence, and placed SVP and General Counsel Mitch Edwards as acting CEO. Byrne has long battled medical issues, having battled cancer nearly 30 years ago and having recently struggled with issues with Hepatitis C. The move, while expected to have an impact on Overstock.com, is also expected to have a major impact on Blockchain, the technology behind Bitcoin. Byrne has been a major proponent and evangelist for Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology.
