Control4 Targets Flash Developers

Salt Lake City-based Control4, the developer of home automation and control systems, said Tuesday that it has launched a new, Flash-based platform for developing home automation applications. According to the firm, it has rolled out a new 4Store application marketplace which allows developers to create their own entertainment, information, and social networking applications which connect to smart home components from the firm, including entertainment gear, lighting, thermostats, security, and more. The firm said it hopes the new marketplace--and associated developers program--will spur the Flash development community and custom installers to create "cool and innovative apps" for Control4's products. In addition to the new programs, Control4 is pushing the new marketplace with a "Developer's Challenge" which will award cash prizes to application developers, including $5,000 to the most popular app.
