Boulder-based dark fiber network operator
Zayo Group said today that it is planning a new, long haul dark fiber network which will connect Reno, Nevada, and Umatilla, Oregon, as a result of a deal with one of its customers. According to Zayo, the link will add more than 600 route miles along the western U.S., and will result in another route between Portland and other major cities in the West Coast. Zayo said the route--which connects via Prineville, Oregon--comes as Reno has become a fast-growing data center hub for "webscale" companies. Zayo said companies have been flocking to Reno due to affordable real estate and industrial power and a favorable tax environment, plus its proximity to Silicon Valley.
