Facebook Tax Break Voted Down In Salt Lake County
The Salt Lake County Council, one of the local government groups which are involved in the proposal to build a new data center in West Jordan, Utah for Facebook, unanimously voted down a tax break proposal this week. Both Utah and New Mexico are both vying to host the new data center. Speakers against the tax break proposal complained that other data center providers had not asked for $240M in tax breaks, and that the data center would consume power and water--but not provide jobs--to the area. A Salt Lake County councilman, Richard Snelgrove, called the proposal "a gross abuse of corporate welfare for a very rich company."
