Facebook announced on Wednesday that it has selected Los Lunas, New Mexico, as the site of its new data center, with
plans to break ground on the project in October. The new data center will be the sixth data center for Facebook, which says finding a data center location "takes years". The company cited the strong pool of local talent for construction and long-term operations staff, and access to clean and renewable energy, as well as the local community for the selection. New Mexico had
been vying with Utah for the new data center. Utah had offered up a site in West Jordan for use by Facebook, but had
local government opposition to the site, due to the large usage of power and water, but minimal jobs for locals from the new operation.
