Ancestry.com announced this morning it has acquired Salt Lake City-based
iArchives, Inc., the owner of
Footnote.com, in a deal worth $27M in cash, stock, and assumption of liabities. According to Ancestry.com, the buy will provide it with a complementary consumer brand, expanded content, and enhanced technology for digitizing and viewing documents. Ancestry.com said that iArchives will become a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm. Footnote.com digitizes American historical records, including information from the Revolutionary War, Continental Congress, Civil War, and other U.S. historical events. Ancestry.com has also been bolstering its content in the area, and in July had announced its own Revolutionary War collection.
