Xcel Energy is implementing an online, home energy monitoring system from GridPoint, the Colorado utility said today, which will allow 1.4 million residential Colorado customers of the firm to access their electric and natural gas energy usage history via the Internet. According to Xcel Energy, the new online portal will help its customers personalize their electric and natural gas energy usage strategies, using data from smart meter systems. The firm also said that Boulder customers, who quality for a special Demand Side Management pilot project being run by the firm will soon have the ability to control certain household devices through the site, as well. Gridpoint's smart grid software gives consumers information about their consumption, costs, and carbon footprint.
