Xcel Energy Connects Boulder To Smart Grid
Denver-based
Xcel Energy
reported Tuesday that the electric utility has completed a smart grid project for the city of Boulder. According to the firm, it has completed construction of infrastructure and launched all of the software for a smart grid in the city, which automates three of its four distribution substations, installed approximately 200 miles of fiber-optic cable, and installed nearly 16,000 smart meters to residents and small businesses. The firm said the completion allows it to be able to read customer meters remotely and avoid power outages. The firm said it will be launching an in-home energy management Web portal in the fourth quarter of the year for its customers.
