Micron Enters Solid State Disk Market
Boise, Idaho-based Micron said Wednesday that it is entering the solid state drive (SSD) market, and announced a new line of storage products. The maker of memory said that its new RealSSD products will provide NAND-based storage, in density from 1 gigabyte to 64 GB. SSDs are used by PC and consumer product manufacturers to include storage on their notebooks, desktops, and other devices as an alternative to traditional, spinning hard drives. Micron's new devices are available in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors, and support native Serial ATA (SATA) interfaces. Micron also rolled out USB and module versions of the SSDs.
