Micron, Intel Team On NAND Memory Advance
Boise, Idaho-based Micron Technology and Santa Clara, California-based Intel said today that the two have teamed to produce what the two said is the industry's first sub-40 nanometer NAND memory device. The two said they jointly developed the process technology to manufacture the chip. The NAND memory provides 32 Gb of memory into standard TSOP packaging, and is targeted for use in high density memory applications such as solid state drives (SSDs). Solid state drives are memory-based storage that replace hard disk drives. Micron and Intel said that sampling begins in June for the new chips, with mass production expected in the second half of the year.
