Micron Announces Enterprise SSDs
Boise, Idaho-based Micron Technology said Thursday that it has rolled out a new, solid-state disk drive targeted at the enterprise market. According to Micron, its RealSSD P300 SSD is a SATA drive supporting up to 44,000 read and 16,000 write IOPS, which it says is more than 15 times the performance of competing SATA-based SSDs. The firm said the drives used its ONFI 2.1 34-nanometer SLC NAND technology. Micron said the drive will be available in 50, 100 and 200-gigabyte capacities, is sampling now, and will be in mass production in October. Pricing on the drives was not announced. Solid state disk drives used flash memory, instead of spinning platters, for storage.
