Novell Renames SUSE Community Project
Novell has renamed its SUSE Linux distribution, saying today that it is changing the name of its open source operating system to openSUSE, to help customers identify the right Linux product for their needs. Novell said that it will rename the end-user oriented distribution of SUSE to the new name, to distinguish them from Novell's enterprise Linux products, which will continue to be known as SUSE Linux Enterprise. The firm emphasized that openSUSE, which is available for free download and free distribution, is not intended for business deployment but as a way for companies and users to take a first look at the Linux operating system. The company has apparently been seeing confusion over the simiarly named offerings.
