FoodMaven Makes First Move Out Of State, Launches In Dallas Fort Worth
Colorado Springs-based food startup FoodMaven said this week that it is making its first expansion out of state, to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. FoodMaven offers up an online marketplace which helps local food suppliers sell their oversupplied or imperfect food to restaurants or institutional buyers. FoodMaven says that food listed on its marketplace either gets sold, donated to hunger-relief organizations, or move to "environmentally conscious alternatives". FoodMaven said it selected the Dallas-Fort Worth area due to a "supportive business environment", desire for local food sourcing, and a "vibrant food culture." The expansion is the first in what it says is a nationwide expansion plan. FoodMaven is backed by angel investors, including Walter Robb, the former co-founder of Whole Foods Market.
