ON Semiconductor Buys Cypress Business Unit

Phoenix-based ON Semiconductor announced today that it has acquired the CMOS image sensor business unit from Cypress. The deal was worth $31.4M in cash. The business unit develops custom and standard CMOS image sensors, used in digital photography, cinematography, and other uses. ON Semiconductor gains around 100 patents and patent applications, as well as 80 employees, from the acquisition.
