NREL, Siemens Investing $14M In Colorado Wind Center
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Siemens Energy said Monday that they two are investing $14M in research at NREL's National Wind Technology Center, which is based in Golden, Colorado. According to the two, they have formally commissioned a new, 2.3 megawatt Siemens wind turbine as part of a project to study the performance and aerodynamics of wind power turbines. As a result of the investment, Siemens will create its own wind power research and development center in Boulder, which will employ 40 engineers and other staff by 2013. Siemens is investing $9M of the total, with NREL providing $4M.
