Micron Ships 2G DDR3 Memory Components

Boise, Idaho-based Micron Technology said today that it has shipped what it says is the industry's first 2 gigabit, double rate (DDR) 3 components. The new memory runs at 1333Mbps, and is targeted for use in 8 gigabit and 16 GB modules for servers, and for 4GB modules for desktop and notebook PCs. Micron said the memory is now being sampled, and will be commercially available in Q1 of 2008. DDR3 is the next generation memory module format being used by the highest performing PC motherboards; Intel launched chipsets supporting the format in May. Micron has been shipping 1 gigabit DDR3 samples since last year.
