Vivint Solar Teams With Mercedes-Benz Energy On Home Batteries
Lehi, Utah-based Vivint Solar and Mercedes-Benz Energy are in a deal to bring home battery storage to the U.S. residential solar market, the two said this week. According to the two, they are in a strategic collaboration, which will bring the Mercedes-Benz customizable home energy storage system to the United States. Vivint Solar will contribute its expertise in designing, installing and servicing solar energy systems. Financial details of the deal were no disclosed. Mercedes-Benz, like Tesla Motors, is using the expertise it has gained with electric and hybrid vehicle batteries, and is looking to apply those to the home energy storage market. Mercedes said its energy storage systems use 2.5 kWh batteries which can be combined to create systems as large as 20 kWh, letting users both manage energy costs and move to clean energy.
