Boulder-based
sovrn, the online ad network operator which was formerly known as Lijit, said over the weekend that it is shutting down the
Lijit Search Widget, the site search tool which was the very first product from Lijit when it was a startup. According sovrn, it will shut down access to the widget on October 31st. Sovrn said the shutdown comes so it can better focus on its website monetization tools for its publishers. The company is pointing its remaining users to Google Custom Search and SearchWP as replacements. Lijit's original, search widget tool grew out of a masters' thesis by Lijit co-founder Stan James, back when the company was known as Outfoxed, which used a user's social graph to better tailor a user's searching on the Internet.
