Tendril, the developer of energy management software and hardware, said today that it has selected two winners in a crowdsourced, energy efficiency application development challenge. The firm said the contest, sponsored by the company and Netherlands' based energy firm Essent N.V., challenged developers to develop applications which used real-time customer data and feedback to power energy efficiency apps. Tendril said snApp and iWattMeter won the challenge, which used Tendril's platform and 150 smart meter-linked customers from Essent. snApp's app for the iPhone shows customers real-time energy usage in a interface similar to a thermostat; iWattMeter's app shows energy usage data over time.
