Mozy, the data storage service owned by EMC and which has operations in Pleasant Grove, Utah, has become part of VMware, the firms said last night. VMware said it has hired the team and acquired the assets of the Mozy cloud-based data protection service. Mozy was originally started in Utah and acquired by EMC in October of 2007. No details of how the acquisition impacts Mozy's Pleasant Grove operations were released. Both VMware and Mozy are owned by EMC. VMware said it will continue top operate the Mozy online backup service, but will also be incorporating the core data handling technologies developed at Mozy into its enterprise products.
