Sorenson Media Signs Qualcomm
Salt Lake City-based Sorenson Media revealed Thursday that wireless telecommunications heavyweight Qualcomm has licensed Sorenson's Spark video decoder for use in mobile video applications. The financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. According to Sorenson, its Spark video codec will enable Qualcomm devices to play a wide variety of Internet videos. Sorenson said Qualcomm plans to use the codec in its next-generation chipsets for multimedia-rich mobile phones, mobile computing devices and other consumer products. Sorenson claims that its Spark codec is the Internet's most widely used video decoder.
