Fusion-io, a manufacturer of solid state disk drives, is trumpeting the firm's performance today, saying that the firm has demonstrated 1 million IOPS (I/O operations per second) and 8 gigabytes per second performance on a HP Proliant server recently. The firm claimed that the demonstration gives it the ability to provide performance that "data centers have only dreamed of." Fusion-io is targeting companies looking to accelerate databases, data mining applications, financial transactions, and virtualization with its disk drives, which use memory instead of spinning disks. The firm said its demonstration included 11 of its disk drives, using NAND flash in a PCI Express form factor, in a single HP Proliant DL785.
