Berkeley Data Systems, a software developer which operates an online service for data protection, has launched a remote backup service geared specifically for businesses, the company reported Tuesday. The product, MozyPro, was actually released in December but without much publicity. Even so, some 2,500 businesses registered for the service, Berkeley founder and CEO Josh Coates said. Berkeley offers a similar utility, called Mozy, for end users — both enable computer users to back up their systems without resorting to local media (tapes, disks, DVDs or external hard drives), but MozyPro offers enterprise features tailored for businesses. Berkeley Data Systems was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Salt Lake City.
