Colorado First To Deploy Self Driving Vehicles For Road Safety

Colorado has become the first state in the nation using self driving vehicles to improve safety of its road construction crews. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) unveiled a new, self-driving work zone vehicle which follows behind road construction crews, to protect workers from being hit by inattentive drivers. The self-driving vehicle--which was shown off in action in Fort Collins earlier this month--replaces those "buffer" vehicles, which had been driven by workers behind road crews. CDOT said that there were 26 incidents in the last 4 years where people ran into its impact protection vehicles, and that the use of a robotic vehicle will help increase worker safety.
