Waymo Self Driving Cars Face Vandalism, Threats, And Even Guns In Arizona
Waymo, the self driving car startup spun out of Google, which is testing its autonomous vehicles in Chandler, Arizona, has a problem on its hands -- widespread crime and hate against its self-driving vans. According to the Arizona Republic, self driving vehicles from Waymo have had their tires slashed, people deliberately running the vehicles off the road, and even had someone point a gun at the vehicle--and its safety driver--as a result of widespread backlash against testing of the vehicles in Chandler. The Arizona Republic report says there have been at least 21 incidents documented by Chandler police over the last two years of harassment of the vehicles and their drivers.
