Sling Courts Chinese TV Streaming Users
Englewood, Colorado-based online video streaming service Sling said today that it is hoping to sign up U.S. fans of Chinese television shows with its recently announced set of Chinese programs, via its "Great Wall" and "Jade" packages, in light of a recent defeat of TVpad, a developer of a device which let users stream pirated Chinese television shows into the U.S. Sling's parent company, DISH Network, had been instrumental in the lawsuit against TVpad, joining Chinese broadcasters China Central Television (CCTV), China International Communications Co., Ltd. (CICC), and TVB Holdings (USA), against the maker of TVpad. A federal judge ruled against Create New Technology, the creator of TVpad in June, barring that company from streaming its content through peer-to-peer networks.
