Fox Loses Appeal On DISH Ad Skipping Features

Englewood, Colorado-based satellite television provider DISH has been served up a victory in the courts, after the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed an earlier lower court ruling that said that the company's "Hopper" ad skipping features do not violate copyright laws. DISH had been sued by Fox Broadcasting for its ad-skipping features, which are available on the Dish Hopper HD DVR. DISH said the decision is "a victory for American consumers". Fox and other broadcasters have not been happy with the features, which it says deprive it of revenue from advertising. The Hopper's AutoHop feature automatically skips ads for users on playback from the DVR.
