Leavitt Partners, Park City Group Target Food, Drug Safety
Two, high profile Utah firms said today they are partnering to bolster food and drug tracking in the supply chain. Salt Lake City-based Leavitt Partners, which provides health care and food safety consulting, and Park City Group, a provider of consumer goods supply chain technology, said today the two have partnered on creating a new product to help track food and drug safety through the supply chain. The two said they will build a global food and drug safety registry, aimed at helping retailers, foodservice operators, wholesalers and manufacturers comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Details on the partnership were not disclosed, but it says the effort will help provide tracking and racing of both food and pharmaceuticals from a manufacturer to retailer. That tracking capability has become an important part of recent legislation, which aims to better react to food safety scares and pharmaceutical counterfeiting and other issues. Financial details of the partnership were not announced. Leavitt Partners was founded by Utah Governor Michael Leavitt--who was previously Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush. Park City Group is headed by Randy Fields, who co-founded Mrs. Fields Cookies.
