EchoStar Buys Hughes

Englewood, Colorado-based EchoStar said today that it is acquiring satellite communications provider Hughes Communications, Inc. in a deal worth approximately $2 billion. EchoStar said it would acquire all of the outstanding equity of Hughes and its subsidiaries including its main operating subsidiary, Hughes Network Systems, LLC. Hughes is a provider of broadband satellite technology.
