Local Universities, Firms Get DOE Funding

Arizona State University and two Colorado firms are among the recipients of $151M in funding from the Department of Energy, focused on breakthrough energy research, the DOE said Monday. According to the Department of Energy, it is awarding $5.1M to a project at Arizona State University with Fluidic Energy, Inc.; another $5.2M to Arizona State University, Diversified Energy, and North Carolina State University for developing biofuel feedstocks; $9.1M to Littleton, Colorado-based Foro Energy, a developer of geothermal power drilling technology; and $4.9M to Little, Colorado-based ITN Energy, MAG Industrial Automation Systems, EPRI, and the Colorado School of Mines for work on Solid-state electrochromic film for smart windows. The projects are part of 37 selected by the Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy ("ARPA-E"), which is receiving $400M from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
