Fusion-io Trumpets MySpace Install

Salt Lake City-based Fusion-io, the heavily backed developer of solid state disk drives, is trumpeting an installation with social networking site MySpace this morning. Fusion-io said that MySpace is using its solid state products in its data center operations, as part of an effort to reduce floor space and power consumed in its data center. Fusion-io said that MySpace has replaced a server farm of 2U servers with 10-12, 15,000 RPM mechanical disk drives, with 1U servers using its own slid state disks. Exactly size of the install, and the financial impact of the instalation, was not given, however Fusion-io claimed that the server farm using its ioDrives uses less than one percent the power of the hard drive arrays. Fusion-io is backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates, Dell Ventures, and Sumitomo Ventures, and raised a big $47.5M funding round in April.
