First Solar Land 30MW New Mexico Deal
Tempe, Arizona-based First Solar, a manufacturer of photovoltaic panels, has scored a win on a 30 megawatt (AC), 500,000 panel photovoltaic power plant to be located in northeastern New Mexico. According to Westminster, Colorado-based power operator, the Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, the deal will be "among the largest" facility of its kind in the world. Financial details of the project--billed the Cimarron I Solar Project--were not released by the firms involved. According to the companies, the facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2010, and will provide enough energy to serve approximately 9,000 homes. First Solar will be engineering, procurement and construction contractor on the facility, and will also monitor and maintain the facility.
