Ascent Solar Wins Drone Deal With New Mexico Firm
Thornton, Colorado-based solar technology developer Ascent Solar says its flexible, thin-film photovoltaic modules are being used on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from New Mexico's Silent Falcon UAS Technologies. Ascent Solar said that SFUAS is using its photovoltaic modules to power its Silent Falcon aircraft, a tactical, electric powered drone being aimed at the commercial, public safety, and defense market. Ascent Solar said the use of its lightweight PV modules allow those UAS systems to have a 6 to 12 hour flight endurance. Silent Falcon is apparently in the midst of transitioning from prototypes to initial production, for customers in the domestic, Latin America, and Asia Pacific markets. Silent Falcon is based in Albuquerque.
