COPAN Adds De-duplication

Longmont, Colorado-based COPAN Systems, a developer of disk storage products for archiving of information, said today that it has added data de-duplication to its latest products. Data de-duplication, a technique used to compress information being backed up to storage, is used by companies to reduce the amount of storage needed to back up and protect its data. COPAN said the de-duplication features will be available in its Revolution 300 series of massive array of idle disk (MAID) products. Copan's disk-based storage systems used power-managed, low-cost disk drives to replace the use of tape for archiving purposes. COPAN said it is using software from FalconStor for the data de-duplication capabilities. COPAN is venture backed by Austin Ventures, Battery, Globespan Capital, Pequot Ventures, Credit Suisse, Gold Hill Capital, Presidio STX and NTT Leasing Capital (USA).
