Jabber Gets DOD IM Win
Denver, Colorado-bsaed Jabber Inc., a developer of instant-messaging software, announced Tuesday that a U.S. Defense Department combat support agency has selected Jabber's commercial IM server platform to provide Defense Department personnel with messaging, text chat and chat room service for one year. Jabber said the Defense Information Systems Agency awarded the one-year agreement to IT contractor Carahsoft Technology Corp., which in turn will partner with four other contractors, including Jabber. The total contract is worth an estimated $22 million, Jabber said, and includes a two-year option. Jabber said that its Extensible Communications Platform is already widely deployed throughout the federal government, including the Defense and Homeland Security departments and the U.S. intelligence community.
