Micron Takes Shake out of Camera Phones
Semiconductor manufacturer Micron Technology Inc. has produced a new chip that will reduce blurring in photographs snapped from a camera phone, the company announced this week. The new product, a quarter-inch, 3-megapixel camera system-on-chip sensor for mobile handsets, includes an anti-shake sensor, which Micron said was the first of its kind for an image sensor in this category. The chip, designed with Micron's 1.75-micron pixel technology, also boasts JPEG compression and image processing, and will be available to consumers as early as August 2007. Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Micron manufactures DRAM, flash memory, CMOS image sensors and other semiconductor components for use in computing, networking and mobile products.
