Micron To Debut 5 Megapixel HD Sensor For Consumer Market
Boise, Idaho-based Micron Technology said that it will preview a new, 5-megapixel high definition image sensor targeted at the mainstream digital camera market at Photokina, the photography industry show next week. Micron said that the new sensor will be able to capture video at 60 frapes per second, and begin sampling the sensor in the fall of 2006. The new 2.2 micron sensor is specifically targeted at digital video camcorder applications. According to Micron, the sensor can capture 60 fps of video in 720p format, and 30 fps in 1080p format.
