Quark Buys Graphics Design Software Firm

Denver Colorado-based Quark said Wednesday that it has acquired A Lowly Apprentice Production (ALAP), a provider of publishing and graphic design technology. Quark said that the acquisition will add functionality to Quark's product family. Quark is the producer of QuarkXPress, software used by the publishing industry for page layout and design. ALAP's products add Photoshop and compositing support to QuarkXPress. As part of the acquisition, ALAP founder Paul Schmitt joins the firm as VP of product development. Financial terms were not disclosed.
