Waymo, the developer of self-driving cars which is part of Google's Alphabet, said on Tuesday that it plans a major expansion in Arizona, and will open up a "technical service center" in Mesa. According to Waymo, the new, 85,000-foot center will maintain its fleet of cars that it is driving around Phoenix through its Waymo One driverless taxi service.
According to Waymo, the new space will more than double the company's capacity to service, maintain, and grow its fleet of cars. Waymo said the Phoenix area is especially well suited for its testing, citing a large area with broad, yet complex, city streets; a wide-spread suburban population that relies heavily on vehicle transport; and "lots of gorgeous sunny days for driving".
