Utah Industry Group: More Than 1,000 Life Sciences Companies In State
A local, Utah, nonprofit trade association, BioUtah said this week that it has issued a report, which finds there are more than 1,000 life sciences companies in Utah, employing 34,352 people and had $7.4 billion in total sales in 2016. The group--which promotes the biotech industry in Utah--said the findings were detailed in a new report, its 2018 Life Sciences Report, which highlights the industry's positive impact on the state's economic landscape. BioUtah said the results came from the Utah Life Sciences Economic Contribution Study conducted by the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. BioUtah says the life sciences industry employed 1.8 percent of the state's workers, and was responsible for 2.6 percent of Utah's total GDP.
