Amazon.com said this morning that it is opening its first, Utah "fulfillment center", which it says will create 1,500 full-time, hourly jobs. The fulfillment center--Amazon's term for its pick-and-pack warehouses--will be its first in Utah. Amazon said the new facility will allow it to better serve its customers and improve its Prime membership benefits. The new center will include 855,000 square feet of space, and Amazon said that employees there will pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics, and toys.
