Boulder Power Technologies, which makes big, battery-based portable power units, said it has scored a win with the City and County of Denver as a customer. Boulder Power said Denver has purchased a its PowerTap 2000 portable power units for public events and speeches by Denver's Mayor Michael Hancock, powering PA systems, lighting, and other electronics. Boulder Power is attempting to gain some of the market share of noisy, gas-consuming generators with its Lithium-ion based battery systems. The company's battery systems are charged up before an event and rolled out to sites to provide power for up to 12 hours on a charge.
