Spectra Logic Debuts New Storage Migration Appliance
Boulder, Colorado-based Spectra Logic said today that it has launched a new appliance specifically aimed at managing massive amounts of data at low cost. The company said its new BlackPearl Deep Storage Appliance is aimed at Hadoop and big data environments, and is designed to store large data objects on tape via Web interfaces. The company said it is targeting Web 2.0, cloud services, big data, media and entertainment, oil and gas exploration, life sciences, federal and state government, social media and finance, along with other customers with the new product. The new appliance handles movement and migration of data to tape libraries. Pricing on the new appliance was not announced.
