Spectra Logic In Supercomputer Deal
Boulder-based Spectra Logic, the supplier of tape backup systems and libraries, said this morning that it has been selected by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), to provide tape storage to the NCSA's Blue Waters supercomputer. Spectra Logic said that the Blue Water system is expected to scale to 380 raw petabytes of information within its first to years of operation. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Spectra Logic's T-Finity tape libraries will be used as part of the supercomputer, with four of its 17-frame tape libraries supporting near-line data archiving in the first year, and an additional two systems in year two.
