Overstock.com Offers Up Rewards To California Customers
Salt Lake City-based Overstock.com--which is going by the name O.co nowadays--said today that it will provide free, "Club O" accounts to top California customers, pre-loaded with $10 in credits, after it cancelled its affiliate contracts in that state. Overstock cancelled its affiliate relationships in California Thursday, along with other online retailers, over California's plan to tax Internet purchases of companies with affiliate relationships in the state. Overstock called the sales tax law "unconstitutional". Overstock said it will provide customers who have spent more than $300 in the past year with the premium memberships. Overstock said it has so far cut ties with affiliates in Arkansas, Connecticut, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, New York and Rhode Island over similar laws. The firm said its "Club O" accounts normally cost $20.
