Denver-based mapping site
Mapquest said Tuesday that it has opened up its first site in Asia, with a new site focused on maps in India. According to MapQuest, the new MapQuest Open site provides mapping of streets in India, based on the OpenStreetMap project. OpenStreetMap is an effort to create open-source mapping data, allowing users to modify, correct, and provide street and other geographic information. MapQuest said its new site--
open.mapquest.in--provides its data in English by default, and allows users to edit any of the data on the map. The launch of the Indian site also comes at the same time as the addition of Austria and Belgium to its European open mapping efforts.
