Optomec Gets $750K SBIR
Albuquerque, New Mexico-based Optomec, a developer of metal fabrication technology for the electronics, aerospace, solar, and medical industry, reported Wednesday that it has received a $750,000 Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract. According to Optomec, the contract came from the U.S. Navy, and is going towards development of repair capability for restoring aircraft engine integrally bladed rotors (IBRs). The firm said the new SBIR is on top of earlier, Phase I and Phase II proposals which were funded by Pratt & Whitney. Optomec is developing a process which helps to repair modern jet engines.
