Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd., a major manufacturer of crystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) modules, said Wednesday along with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, that it will locate its first U.S. manufacturing plant in the City of Goodyear, Arizona. Suntech said it will initially employ more than 70 local residents, and have a production capacity of 30MW. Suntech is based in China. The firm claimed it is the first Chinese clean technology firm to bring manufacturing jobs to the United States with the factory. The company said the plant has the capability to expand to 120MW in production. In announcing the new factory, Suntech said that Arizona's support for renewable energy, the business climate, and availability of local manufacturing-ready facilities influenced its choice of Goodyear for its factory.
